Apna Dal allies with BJP in UP

Apna DalBJP announced an alliance with Apna Dal, which enjoys some following among Kurmi community in parts of Uttar Pradesh, under which the regional outfit will contest in two constituencies in Lok Sabha elections.  The party would be contesting Mirzapur and Pratapgarh seats. The Apna Dal was asking for third seat of Phulpur too but had to settle for two seats. “I would be contesting from Mirzapur and for sure win this seat for the Apna Dal and BJP,” Anupriya Patel, the convener of the party told The Pioneer on telephone on Monday. In 2009 Lok Sabha elections Apna Dal had contested Mirzapur seat and had got over 93,000 votes. “This time it would a cake walk for me,” she said and added that Apna dal will also do well in Pratapgarh. BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi made the announcement in the presence of its UP affairs in-charge Amit Shah, the lone Apna Dal MLA Anupriya Patel and her mother and its president Krishna Patel.
