CM Candidate of congress in UP vidhan sabha election 2017
The Congress party has announced that Sheila Dikshit is going to be its chief ministerial face for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2017. The 78-year-old Congress veteran is a three-time former chief minister of Delhi. She has also served briefly as the governor of Kerala. The Congress is likely to come out with its first list of 150 candidates for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017 by the first week of August. The party has decided against going for any pre-poll tie-up with any other political party in the state. According to sources, the party’s poll strategist Prashant Kishor has held the view, which has been accepted by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, that the party has to look beyond the imminent 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and have the Lok Sabha elections 2019 as its real mission. Evidently, it is requisite for the party to contest the maximum number of seats on its own. The party is also planning to come up with “localised” manifesto for the upcoming election which would be focussing on issues related to the constituencies and the region rather than the entire state.
